About Me

Part 4: What am I doing for myself today?

Your well-being, both physical and mental, is crucial for you to be able to support others effectively. It's a personal responsibility, and no one else can do it for you. Here are two activities that might help.

Activity One

Create a list of activities that help you manage the stress associated with caregiving. Focus on what you truly want to do, rather than what you feel you should or need to do. Jot down some ideas—for example, taking a walk or connecting with other care partners. Consider how you can incorporate these into your routine, especially if your schedule has recently changed or might change in the future.

  • What activities will you choose?
  • How much time will you dedicate to them?
  • When will you do them?
  • What resources do you need?

Activity Two

Take some time to focus on a self-care activity.

  • Breathe deeply
  • Stretch
  • Look out the window
  • Read for pleasure
  • Go for a walk
  • Call a friend
  • Listen to music
  • Practice mindfulness or meditation
  • Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee
  • Write in a journal
  • Spend time with a pet
  • Do a quick workout or yoga session
  • Engage in a hobby you love
  • Watch a favorite TV show or movie
  • Cook or bake something you enjoy
  • Take a short nap
  • Gardening or tending to plants

It's okay if you can't manage it today; give it another go tomorrow.
